#BeMediaReady Workshop
Does your association have a media relations strategy—both for leveraging positive PR and deflecting negative headlines? Carole Walker, Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, leads an exclusive half-day media training workshop for a small group of CSAE association executives and communications staff on October 29. This interactive session will give you the rundown on pitching stories, relationship building, message development AND on camera practice that will help you avoid “the train of thought train wreck”. More information.

Relationships Matter: Business is Personal
The relationships you have with the people in the room are just as critical, if not more so, than the conversations held during any meeting. Do you invest time in your business relationships? How do people perceive you? How can you establish and nourish your business relationships? Carl Budke, Vice President of Human Resources at Birner Dental, shares his insights about the importance of relationships at our October 3 Learn With Leaders Luncheon. More information and registration.

September 24 Webinar: Internal Controls in a Small Staff Office Environment
Michael Borowitz, CPA, covers a practical approach to internal controls for organizations with few employees. Participants will walk through some of the more common environments for associations, discuss some of the myths about internal controls and learn basic approaches to internal controls and specific controls over cash receipts, cash disbursements and payroll. Registration and more information.

The Effect of Canada’s New Anti-Spam Legislation on Associations

Food for Thought

Rely on Checklists
When some projects seem overwhelming, it’s time to start using checklists. To achieve the results, the adage, “when eating an elephant --- take one bite at a time,” promotes breaking big jobs into small tasks. Checklists detail the best ways to accomplish projects. Checklists promote excellence. A checklist facilitates a team approach to working toward desired outcomes. Bob Harris, CAE, discusses the benefits and techniques of using checklists.
