How to Obtain and Maintain Your CAE
CAE candidates are required to have been employed full-time for three years as
a chief staff executive and have three years of experience as CEO and a bachelor's
degree or higher, or have five years experience without a degree. candidates
working at eh staff level in association management having five years of experience
and a bachelor's degree or higher, or having seven years of experience without
a degree are also eligible. suppliers, vendors, or consultants are not eligible
for the CAE credential.
The CAE exam is given in May and December. Applications, guidelines,
and full details on the CAE program is available from the ASAE website
at www.asaenet.org. An online
study program is available through MSAE. As a member of CSAE you
will receive the member rate. Information is available at www.msae.org/page.cfm/47.
To retain the CAE credential, a certified association executive must
accumulate 40 points of continuing education or professional development,
or 30 points of continuing education and 10 points in other areas
such as leadership, instruction, or writing every three years and
submit a completed CAE Renewal Report form. Attending CSAE programs,
serving on a committee, or writing articles for the CSAE Executive
Memo qualify for points.
